  • The Raleigh Bicycle Company is a bicycle manufacturer originally based in Nottingham, UK. It is one of the oldest bicycle companies in the world. From 1929 to 1935 Raleigh also produced motorcycles and three-wheel cars, leading to the formation of the Reliant Company.

    made

  • Made or formed in a particular place or by a particular process
  • successful or assured of success; “now I am a made man forever”- Christopher Marlowe
  • produced by a manufacturing process; “bought some made goods at the local store; rope and nails”
  • (of a bed) having the sheets and blankets set in order; “a neatly made bed”

People often ask: "How do you fit 20 bikes in a 600 square foot apartment?" … Well, the bed is now only used by my 4 house cats… and there are 10 MORE bikes, either on walls or on floor stands in this same room. So, this is no longer a bedroom, it’s a bike stable… with a path to my closet.

A large comfy sofa to sleep on in the living room along with TV, computer, and more bikes mounted horizontally on walls, high up as possible, with boxes of components stacked beneath along one wall, and low shelves with bike books along another. Basically no longer much of a conventional apartment, but I get by just fine and even have room for a repair stand.

My bench grinder/buffer on a stand rolls out onto the porch, Drill press is on a kitchen counter, and tools and small parts bins fill the "kitchen" (where I never cook, anyway). It’s all a matter of priorities.

Several years ago a NYC broker friend who became obsessed with track bikes had 22 complete bikes squeezed into his tiny lower Manhattan apartment. I thought THAT was nuts! – Now he’s fondly remembered as a roll model.

Sure, a house with a garage and basement could be more convenient. But, without a current wife and with no kids would that really make much sense? What would I use all those empty rooms for?

4.) full-chrome French (Gitane?) Track bike (with the funky chromed steel moustache bars)

5.) 1970 Frejus "Professional"

This kid was riding his bike with such joy. The bike is one of the last Raleigh models (a Grifter) to be made in Nottingham, where the bicycle production line (and the hub gear) was invented. New secondhand Pentax ME Super. HP5.
